Happy Ostara: It’s Time to Unfurl (Even if You’re Still in Your Toesocks)

Happy Spring Equinox, beautiful soul! 🌷

There is a specific kind of magic in the air today. It’s that rare, fleeting moment where the world finds its perfect center—a 50/50 split between the lingering shadows of winter and the first real golden stretch of spring. If you’ve been feeling a bit "in-between" lately—halfway between wanting to launch a new dream and halfway wanting to stay under the covers—you are exactly in sync with the rhythm of the earth.

Ostara isn't just about the date on the calendar. It’s about The Unfurling. It’s that quiet, persistent moment a seed decides it’s officially too cramped inside its shell and starts the slow, brave & messy push toward the light.

The Ostara Vibe Check: Are You Balanced?

Because today is all about equilibrium, it’s the perfect time to take a breath and look at your own internal landscape. We spend so much energy "doing" and "hustling" that we often forget how to simply be in our own skin.

Take a second to check in:

  • Where are you over-extending yourself? (Over-giving, over-thinking, or saying "yes" when your soul is screaming "no"?)?

  • Where are you feeling a little parched? (When was the last time you had actual fun, just made time to rest or stretched your creative muscles?)

  • What "winter coat" of old habits or heavy thoughts are you still hauling around? Those heavy thoughts and old habits that you may be ready to leave at the door.

3 Ways to Celebrate Ostara (That Don't Require a Cauldron)

You don’t need a massive ceremony to tap into this energy. You just need a moment of intention to bridge the gap between where you've been and where you're going.

1. Clear the Threshold

Your front door is the transition point between your sanctuary and the world.

  • The Ritual: Give your entrance a little love. Sweep the porch or wipe down the door with some lemon-infused water. As you do, imagine you’re clearing away the stagnant "dust" of the last few months.

  • The Intent: "I clear the path for fresh energy. My space is a sanctuary for growth."

2. The "Egg" of Potential (A Kitchen Magic Moment)

In many traditions, eggs are the ultimate symbol of Ostara and what's possible.

  • The Ritual: Make yourself a nourishing breakfast. As you crack the egg, think about "cracking open" your own potential. What’s waiting inside you to be born?

  • The Intent: Eat with intention. Infuse your body with the "Muchness" of springtime.

2. Plant a Seed of Intent

You don’t need a garden for this. You just need a piece of paper and a pen.

  • The Ritual: Write down one thing you want to grow. Don’t overwhelm yourself with a mile-long to-do list, just pick one thing you want to nurture this season. Hold that paper in your hands, feel the heat of your palms, and imagine that goal blooming into reality.

  • The Intent: "I am planting the seed of [Goal]. I have everything I need to help it grow."

  • The Closing (or Earth Return): Once you’ve sat with your intention and felt that shift in your heart, it’s time to "plant" it. You don't want to just leave that energy sitting on a piece of paper on your kitchen counter—you want to transition it into the physical world. Fold the paper small and tuck it into the soil of a favorite potted plant. As the paper eventually breaks down, imagine your intention taking root and gaining strength from the earth. If it’s a long-term goal, tuck the paper into your journal or under a crystal (like Citrine or Clear Quartz) on your nightstand. Let it be a physical "touchstone" you see every morning.

Want to add a touch of water or fire?

The Nourishment
  • Once you've imagined the goal blooming, place the paper under a glass of water. Let it sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes (or even overnight on a windowsill). Think of the water as a sponge, soaking up the vibration of the words written beneath it.

  • Once the time is up, the water is "charged." Take that glass of water outside and pour it onto a tree, a flower, or even just the grass. You are literally offering the "fluidity" of your dream to the living world. As the water sinks in, say to yourself: "And so it grows." (As for the paper? You can then fold it up and tuck it into your journal or bury it separately in the soil.)

The Full Burn
  • If you prefer to work with fire, you can use the candle to "release" your seed of intent. Light a candle and let the candle burn all the way down (this is called "finishing the work"). Safely light the corner of your paper from the candle flame and place the paper in a heat-proof dish. Watch as the paper turns to ash and consider the energy of your intention released into the universe to start manifesting. Once the ash is completely cool, take it outside. Scatter it to the wind or stir it into the soil of a potted plant. As the remnants hit the earth, simply say: "And so it grows." (If your paper didn't go up in smoke, fold it small. You can either tuck it into the soil of a potted plant to "germinate" or slip it into your journal as a private reminder of what you’re growing this season.)

Choosing Your Candle Color

While any candle you have on hand works perfectly (intention is the real magic here!), choosing a specific color can help "anchor" your focus:

  • Green: The classic choice for the Equinox. Use green if your intention is about growth, abundance, or healing. It’s the color of the unfurling forest and new life.

  • Yellow or Gold: Perfect for clarity, joy, and solar energy. If your goal is to "shine" in a new project or find your confidence again, this is your color.

  • White: The "universal" reset. Use white for purity, new beginnings, or a total system clearing. It’s like a fresh, blank canvas for your soul.

  • Pink: If your intention is centered on self-love, soft transitions, or nurturing a relationship, pink brings that gentle, heart-centered vibration.

A Little Grounded Truth: Growth Can Be Messy

Here’s the thing: Growth hurts a little bit. A seed has to literally fall apart to become a flower. If you feel a bit messy, emotional, or "unfinished" right now, you aren't failing. You’re just in the middle of a beautiful transformation.

Don't rush the bloom. The tulips don't compare themselves to the daffodils, and you shouldn't compare your Day 1 to someone else's Day 100.

Ready to Shed the Winter Weight?

Sometimes the "soil" of our soul gets a little too packed down by life’s nonsense for us to sprout on our own. If you’re feeling more "stuck in the mud" than "blooming in the sun," let’s clear that path.

A Reiki Session can help to break up that winter "static" and get your energetic sap flowing again. Think of it as a spiritual fertilizer for your biggest dreams.

Happy Ostara, love. Go find your light.
